Our first day of school will be Friday, August 16, 2024!
August 6, 2024
Dear Weed High School Students, Families, and Staff,
Welcome to the 2024/2025 school year! We are thrilled to have you back and are excited to embark on this new academic journey together. As we gear up for the first day of school on Friday, August 16, 2024, we want to share some details and updates to ensure a smooth and enjoyable start.
While it may feel a bit unusual to kick off the school year on a Friday, we’re turning it into a day full of fun and excitement! Our regular school schedule will be in effect from 8:00am to 3:05pm. to start the year off right.
Our day will begin with a spirited Welcome Back Assembly hosted by our ASB, setting a positive tone for the year ahead. Freshmen will then have the opportunity to participate in our Freshmen Orientation, guided by our enthusiastic Link Crew members.
Throughout the day, we will also have Jennifer Martin on campus to take school pictures, ensuring everyone has a fresh new look for the year. Class lists will be available, Chromebooks will be distributed, and locker check-ins will be conducted. We’ll also facilitate icebreaker sessions to help students, teachers, and staff get to know each other better. We are also excited to welcome several new staff to the WHS campus: Jake Hosler - Math/Head Varsity Football coach, Andrew Mylan - Math, Eric Vadala - PE, and Lonnie Henson - Food Services Manager.
To celebrate the start of the school year, we are hosting a Welcome Back barbecue at 12:30pm! This will serve as our version of Back to School Night, held during the day. We warmly invite all families to join us for this event, where you can meet teachers, staff, and fellow students while enjoying some delicious food.
Family to do list:
If you have changes that need to be made to your school enrollment form that is on file with the school, such as mailing address or emergency contact numbers, please contact the office to make the necessary changes.
We email the bulletin and a variety of information to parents regularly. If you would like to be added to the email parent list, please provide us with an updated email address.
Parents can register to have online access to your student’s grades, class assignments, and attendance records. To gain this access, create an online account through the parent/student Aeries portal on our website.
Income Verification Forms - these are included in the packet being sent home. There is personal information, but rest assured no one at the school looks at any of the information you complete. The completion of these forms will provide additional and substantial funding to our school. If they are not completed, we will lose this additional funding for our students.
Fall athletic programs begin with volleyball, football, cheer, soccer, and cross-country practice. A reminder that all athletes must have their physicals and proof of medical insurance turned into the office prior to practice. Contact the office for start dates and times.
Let’s make this year exceptional! We’re looking forward to an incredible year filled with learning, growth, and community spirit.
Here’s to a fantastic 2024/2025 school year!
Warmest regards,
Danielle Dewhurst

WHS Football took a different approach to training today, choosing to have a recovery day in the pool. Thanks to WHS Swim Coach Rich, the football team worked on a variety of resistance exercises. Today’s focus was on team building, strength, flexibility and agility, not to mention conditioning. We appreciate the Weed community center and their staff for all of their support. Not a bad way to beat the heat! #PawsUp #CougarFootball #WHS #WHSCougars
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Tuesday
